The 2023 Ford Maverick is back, and it’s ready to deliver the same efficient trucking experience, along with upgraded off-road capabilities. Let’s see what Ford’s compact truck has to offer in its second model year on the road.
What will change for the 2023 Ford Maverick?
There’s a very exciting development for the new Maverick; this compact pickup is now available with the Tremor package. Ford’s famous off-road package adds off-road-tuned suspension, an upgraded all-wheel-drive system, and 1 inch of additional ground clearance. Trail Control, Ford’s low-speed cruise control system, is also included, allowing you to focus primarily on steering yourself out of a sticky off-road situation. Available for the mid-grade XLT or top-trim Lariat, the Tremor package adds $2,995 to the price of a new Maverick.
How efficient is the 2023 Ford Maverick? How much can this compact truck tow and haul?
The Maverick’s standard hybrid powertrain is very, very efficient. Trucks with this engine earn 37 mpg combined, a great figure for such a capable pickup truck. With the hybrid powertrain, the Maverick can haul payloads weighing up to 1,500 pounds. Properly equipped, hybrid tow ratings reach 2,000 pounds.
- 2.5L four-cylinder hybrid engine (191 horsepower, 155 lb-ft of torque)
- Continuously variable transmission
- Front-wheel drive
- 37 mpg combined (42 city/33 highway)
The 2023 Ford Maverick is also available with an optional 250-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. If you want to add all-wheel drive to your ride — for better off-road performance — you must first upgrade to this powertrain. It’s also the better choice for towing, boosting max tow ratings to 4,000 pounds. Max payloads remain at 1,500 pounds.
- Turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine (250 hp, 277 lb-ft)
- Eight-speed automatic transmission
- Front-wheel drive
- Optional all-wheel drive
- Up to 26 mpg combined (23 city/30 highway)
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick comfortable?
Every Maverick features a SuperCrew cabin, which is both very comfortable and very spacious. Inside, you’ll find generous seat padding in both rows. And the cabin remains pretty quiet, even on the highway. All of this is good news if you plan to spend a lot of time on the road.
And, with three trim models available, the Maverick offers layers of luxury. The standard lineup includes the basics, such as cloth upholstery, power accessories, and air conditioning. The XLT is a little cushier, with upgraded seating upholstery and a rear center armrest with cupholders. At the top of the lineup, the Lariat sets you up with dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a power-sliding rear window. The Lariat is also available with the Lariat Luxury package, which adds leather upholstery, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, creating a very luxurious truck indeed.
