Which should you choose, the 2022 Ford Edge SE or the SEL? Both of these Edge trim models deliver a powerful performance and sporty all-wheel drive. The SE comes at a lower rate, but the SEL gives you a longer list of standard features. Before you decide, let’s take a closer look at each of these midsize crossover SUVs.
Price
When you choose the SE, you’re getting the best possible deal on a brand new Edge. This entry-level model starts at $36,145.
However, if you prefer the SEL’s longer list of comfort and tech features, you only have to spend a little bit more. The mid-grade Edge starts at $38,445.
Power & Performance
Both the 2022 Ford Edge SE and SEL come with the same powertrain, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (250 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque) linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. And every Edge also comes standard with all-wheel drive, performance gear that creates a fun-loving ride on the pavement and a capable one on the trail.
Properly equipped, these Edge trim models can tow max loads of 3,500 pounds. If you have a medium-size boat or teardrop camper at home, either Edge should be able to transport it with ease.
Comfort & Convenience Features
Although the SE is the Edge’s entry-level model, there’s nothing basic about it. This five-passenger SUV treats your family to a roomy, supportive drive. Comfort-inducing features include soft cloth upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control. And the manual-adjusting front seat and tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel accommodate drivers’ different shapes and sizes.
Upgrading to the SEL means a little more luxury. The front seats are both power-adjustable and heated, which means a wider range of adjustments and cozy winter cruising. The SEL’s faux leather seating is nice, but you can also upgrade this model with ActiveX upholstery. ActiveX is also faux leather, but it’s more stain-resistant and increasingly durable.
SE:
- Cloth upholstery
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Manual tilt-and-telescoping steering column
- Eight total cupholders
- Power door locks with auto lock
SEL:
- Faux leather upholstery
- Power-adjustable, heated front seats
- Optional ActiveX faux leather upholstery
Tech & Safety
The 2022 Ford Edge comes standard with an impressive collection of infotainment gear. Thanks to the brand new SYNC 4 infotainment system, you can use the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features wirelessly. Compared to the previous infotainment system, SYNC 4 is faster and more accessible, with a bigger, 12-inch touchscreen. The SEL adds more speakers to your stereo system, amplifying your overall infotainment experience.
Ford’s midsize SUV also comes standard with a helpful variety of safety aids. Forward collision mitigation can hit the brakes and potentially save you from collision. If you’re caught in fast-moving highway traffic, the blind-spot monitor helps you know when it’s safe to switch lanes.
When you upgrade to the SEL, you can also choose to add extra safety aids, including adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
SE:
- LED headlamps
- SYNC 4 with 12-inch touchscreen interface
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Four USB ports
- Six-speaker audio system
- Ford Co-Pilot360 package (automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, forward collision mitigation)
SEL:
- SecuriCode keyless entry pad
- Nine-speaker stereo system
- Optional Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package (including navigation, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control)
- Optional Convenience package (110-volt power outlet, power liftgate, remote start, wireless charging pad, security alarm)
