Which midsize crossover SUV is more your style, the 2022 Ford Edge or the Hyundai Santa Fe? Because these five-passenger SUVs have so much in common — including tow-friendly power, rich interior comfort, and smart tech gear — you might not know which one to choose. But our comparison guide is here to help.
Lowest Price: 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
Just like other Hyundai models, the Santa Fe offers a very low starting price. The base model starts at $27,400. It offers pretty substantial savings next to the Edge’s starting MSRP, $36,145.
On the other end of the trim model spectrum, however, these midsize crossovers are very similarly priced. The top-of-the-line Santa Fe starts at $45,510, which is more, but still very competitive with the Edge’s most luxurious model, with its $44,945 price tag.
Passenger & Cargo Space: It’s a Tie
With the Edge, you’re getting a lot more cargo space. Behind the rear seats, the Edge provides 39.2 cubic feet for your family’s weekend bags, camping gear, and snack collection. The Santa Fe shorts you a few cubic feet, with 36.4 cubes behind the rear seats.
However, the Santa Fe does deliver a few extra inches of legroom in both rows. If you and your loved ones have long legs, you might be willing to trade the extra cargo space for slightly more legroom!
Both the 2022 Ford Edge and the Hyundai Santa Fe treat you to as much luxury as you care to purchase. Options for both SUVs include leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
Power & Performance: 2022 Ford Edge
If you’re after the best performance, the Edge should be your first choice. Ford’s midsize crossover offers two sporty powertrains:
- 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine (250 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque) + eight-speed automatic transmission
- 2.7L turbo V6 (335 hp, 380 lb-ft) + seven-speed automatic transmission
Besides generous power, every Edge comes standard with all-wheel drive, performance technology that helps you maintain precision on slick or soft surfaces.
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe also offers two powertrain options:
- 2.5L four-cylinder engine (191 hp, 181 lb-ft) + eight-speed automatic transmission
- 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine (281 hp, 311 lb-ft) + eight-speed automatic transmission
Neither has quite as much pep as the Edge options, unfortunately. And the Santa Fe comes standard with front wheel drive, though it does offer all-wheel drive as an option.
Properly equipped, though, both midsize crossovers can tow a boat of the same size. Both crossovers offer max tow ratings of 3,500 pounds.
Technology: 2022 Ford Edge
The Edge once again takes the lead. Ford’s new SYNC 4 infotainment system is standard on every model, and it gives you the best overall experience with its 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and fast processor.
Although the Santa Fe’s standard infotainment system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, its touchscreen is more basic, coming in at 8 inches.
On the other hand, both midsize crossovers will impress you with their standard safety gear. Features like forward collision mitigation and lane-keeping assist not only warn you of danger, but can actually intervene to help you avoid an accident.
Your New Midsize Crossover
Although the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe offers the lowest starting price, it’s the 2022 Ford Edge that gives you more for your money. Choose the Edge for the sportiest ride, road-trip-friendly cargo space, and cutting-edge tech features.
