Here, at Keystone Ford, we understand the challenge of finding a reliable crossover SUV. If you find yourself in the Chambersburg area of Pennsylvania, our team is happy to help in your search. Until then, here is a comparison of two popular options out there; the 2020 Ford Edge and Jeep Renegade.
Price / Fuel Efficiency
Starting with the basics—price and fuel efficiency. The Renegade starts us out at a competitive price of $22,620, compared to the starting price of $31,100 for the Edge. Both vehicles have room for up to five people and are similar in fuel efficiency; the Edge getting up to 21 mpg City / 29 mpg Highway and the Renegade getting up to 24 mpg City / 32 mpg Highway.
Power
The Edge steps into the lead in the power category with two available engine options—the Twin-Scroll 2.0 EcoBoost® and 2.7L V6 EcoBoost®, with the latter producing an incredible 335 horsepower and 380 lb. ft. torque. The Renegade also offers two engine options, however the 1.3L I4 Turbo Mair DI with ESS, which is the more powerful option, only produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb. ft. torque.
Both vehicles have comparable transmissions, with the Edge coming with an 8-speed transmission and Renegade coming with a 9-speed transmission.
The Renegade and Edge both come with Front Wheel Drive options as well as their own versions of All-Wheel and 4-Wheel Drive, making either a great adventure vehicle option.
Although they share similar off-road capability, the Edge and Renegade have very different ways of managing that capability. Where the Renegade offers Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System which allows you to adjust traction settings yourself, the Edge brings a streamlined Intelligent All-Wheel drive system to the table which constantly monitors traction and automatically balances the torque output between the front and rear wheels to enhance and maximize your driving experience. The Renegade offers a similar Active Drive 4x4 system that actively transitions to front-wheel drive, however it’s targeted use is for added fuel efficiency not driving control.
Infotainment
When it comes to ease of use, the Edge is the frontrunner. The standard SYNC® 3 infotainment system features a special touchscreen with swipe functionality along with available pinch-to-zoom capable navigation, and automatic updates over Wi-Fi.
The Edge comes equipped to support 4F LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, comes standard with an Audio Input Jack and two Smart Charging USB ports, whereas those features are upgrades for the Renegade. The Edge continues to excel through the device charging arena by adding an available Wireless Charging Pad, and four standard 12V power points which the Renegade doesn’t have.
Safety
There are definite safety advantages in both the Edge and Renegade, but when it comes down to standard and available features, the Edge comes out with a win. Offering standard features such as Rain-Sensing wipers that are only offered as upgrades in the Renegade.
Comfort / Convenience
Once again, the Edge pushes its competition out of the lead with more standard features then the Renegade. Features such as standard Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control and available Hands-Free, Foot-Activated Liftgate make all the difference in your everyday driving experience.
Both vehicles have available Heated front seats, however the Edge also offers available Cooled front seats which are not an option in the Renegade.
The Renegade also comes up short in the cargo space department with only 18.5 cubic feet behind the rear seat for cargo and a maximum of 50.8 cubic feet behind the front seats. These measurements are small potatoes when compared to the astounding 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and a maximum of 73.4 cubic feet with seat area of cargo space the Edge provides.
Conclusion
Even though the Renegade and Edge both offer many competitive features, the Edge seems to overwhelm the leader board in almost every category. With increased power, more intuitive infotainment center, additional standard safety features and an impressive amount more cargo space, the clear winner here is the Ford Edge. Come down today to take a test drive in your all new Edge!
