Design
The 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty is available in six trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. All trims except the King Ranch are configured as a regular cab, an extended cab, or a crew cab, with either a 6.8- or 8.2-foot bed length. The Ford-250 features a sharp design and a practical layout, with straightforward controls and cabin materials that can handle the mess. Each trim offers more features, with the base trim offering air conditioning, vinyl upholstery, manual windows, and a rearview camera. Higher level trims offer features such as, a panoramic sunroof, a two-tone leather interior; and upscale options that include ambient lighting, heated and cooled front seats, massaging seats, and wireless charging.
The GMC Sierra 2500 HD is available in five trim levels: Sierra, SLE, SLT, AT4, and the Denali. It has a bold design that features sculpted headlamps, a prominent hood, and distinctive grilles. The base version is pretty basic; but if you jump up each trim level, you will be offered power-adjustable front seats, premium leather, and heated and ventilated seats. It offers a comfortable interior with plenty of head and legroom and extra-wide beds.
Safety and Tech
The basic work Ford F-250 truck offers a four-speaker audio system. Higher models offer an easy-to-use Sync 3 infotainment system, with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also can be upgraded with a 10-speaker B&O stereo and SiriusXM satellite radio. Standard on the basic XL is a rearview camera, and a telescoping tow mirror. An Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System, with a total of seven cameras is offered in higher trim levels.
The Sierra HD is equipped with the ProGrade camera system that features up to 15 different viewing modes on the higher trim models. Available key safety features include, forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and available lane-departure warning. Every Sierra HD has a standard touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most trim levels have an 8.0-inch screen, but a larger touchscreen can be upgraded with built-in navigation, a Bose audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
Power, Handling, and Price
The F-250 offers three engines. There is a 6.2-liter gasoline V8 with 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque that pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission, and a new-for-2020 7.3-liter V8 with 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission package. The F-250's turbocharged diesel V8 engine makes 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, with the new 10-speed transmission. With a variety of cab and cargo bed configurations, the Super Duty has a wide range of towing and payload capacities. Each version boasts generous ratings, but the strongest Super Duty has a 7,850-pound payload, pulls up to 24,200 pounds, and tows a massive 37,000 pounds with a fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch. The Sierra HD offers a good amount of power, hauling, and towing capabilities also, but not quite the capability of the Ford-250. It comes standard with 401-horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque in a 6.6-liter gas V8 engine. An optional turbocharged 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 with 446 horsepower and 910 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is available. GMC performs at its peak, with a maximum gooseneck trailer rating of up to 35,000 lbs. Depending on your trim, Sierra HD offers a maximum payload of up to 7,442 lbs. Pricing for the Sierra HD starts at $40,000 for the Sierra SLE & SLT, $57,700 for the Sierra HD AT4, and $63,700 for the Sierra HD Denali.
Overall
Overall, two heavy-duty trucks that offer some similar cabin and safety features, but the 2020 F-250 offers more power to out-haul and out-tow the 2020 Sierra 2500 HD. If you are looking for a truck that can do it all, the 2020 F-250 is your choice.
